Kelly Nursing informatics is “information structures, information processes, and information technology” (Kassam, angle, Struwick 2017) that assist in patient care. It is the the integration of research, technology, and nursing that helps assist in efficient and safe patient care. Nursing is continuously changing as nurses are highly involved in patient healing. As time goes on, it shows that nurses play a significant role in patient outcome and nursing informatics is a way for nurses to stay up to date with medical practices. 2. Based on my research, nursing informatics is the continuous effort to evolve care with science. Nursing leaders play a large role in implementing policies to help with effective patient care, however research have shown nursing leaders do not have much direct patient care. “Therefore, nurse leaders today may not hold the informatics knowledge, let alone the more advanced competencies required to be able to effectively provide strategic and tactical leadership related to the adoption and use of information and communications technologies (ICTs). (Kassam, angle, Struwick 2017) 3. Moving towards the future, nursing leaders should have more experience as floor nurse and do continuous research in order to help expand on patient care roles. They should involve at least once day a week as a floor nurse to stay up to date with their colleagues in patient involvement.

Vanessa, How would you define nursing informatics? From previous knowledge and what I have read so far, I would define nursing informatics as the integration of the nursing field with the technological aspects of nursing, such as charting systems. Within the assigned text, there are several different definitions for nursing informatics which are discussed, however. What aspect of nursing informatics appeals the most to you, based on your readings? Based on what I have read so far, I am most interested in learning more about the computer science aspect of nursing informatics, as well as learning about the Electronic Health Record and all of its components. I believe using these platforms to their full potential can be extremely beneficial in aiding healthcare professionals in efficiently gathering patient data to place in a concise manner in this space. What new technologies would you like to see implemented in your current or future workplace I would like to see the EHR used to its full capacity. I feel that in my workplace, the EHR is used often, but not to its full capacity. I would like to see the full benefit of this asset put to use in the clinical practice. “The robust nature of the electronic health record (EHR) has the potential to address many of these issues and transform the way we collect, store, access, process, manage, and report patient data” (n.d.).
